The NWS location identifier (NWSLI) for this location is WDVO1. The action stage will change from 6.0 to 8.0 feet and the minor flood stage will change from 9.0 to 11.0 feet. It is necessary for the National Weather Service to periodically update flood stages at river forecast points as changes, both natural and man-made, occur over a watershed. These updates are needed to ensure the best quality river forecasts and resulting warnings to local communities. The NWS, Ohio River Forecast Center (OHRFC), and local and county officials have supported the flood stage changes. A recent flood event in April 2025 revealed that no flood impacts to infrastructure, residences, or businesses occurred as the river stage increased from 9.0 feet to 11.0 feet along the Portage River in Woodville Ohio and immediately upstream in and around Pemberville Ohio. Flooding of a highway did occur once the river stage reading reached 11.3 feet. The minor flood stage of 9.0 feet was established due to flooding of residences along the river southwest/upstream of Woodville Ohio, but these residence have been purchased and removed due to frequent flooding.
