Thunderstorm chances are forecast to be confined to the southern South and Rolling Plains this afternoon and into the evening. The severe weather threat is low, though the primary hazard with storms should one become severe and/or move into the forecast area will be large hail between quarter and golf ball size.

Showers and thunderstorms are forecast to develop this afternoon following the passage of a strong cold front. The best storm chances preside across the southern South and Rolling Plains this afternoon and into the evening. The severe weather threat is low; however, localized flooding will be possible in the Rolling Plains heading into the evening.

The greatest rainfall of 1 inch or more is expected to fall later today and tonight across the far southeast South Plains into the southern Rolling Plains, with less than a tenth of an inch in the far southwest Texas Panhandle.

Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms this evening (some severe well south) will wind down from west to east after midnight. Locally heavy rainfall over 1 inch is likely in the southern Rolling Plains which may lead to some flooding. Temperatures will settle in the 50s for lows.

Local Weather History For May 4th...

2015 (5th-6th): Historic flooding from incredible rainfall totals of 6-12 inches occurred over central and southern Lynn
County this evening. Multiple rounds of slow-moving storms trained over the same areas of Lynn County with additional,
but lighter, rainfall continuing through the morning of the 5th. Nearly all roads in Lynn County were closed and the city
of Tahoka evacuated some residents and motorists to Lubbock and Brownfield. Schools in Tahoka were closed on the 5th as
many roads remained impassable from standing water. In Garza County near Southland, a child suffered a head injury after
the car it was in hyrdoplaned abruptly. Less severe flooding occurred elsewhere over the South Plains, including Lubbock.
Regionally, total damages to property and wheat crops could exceed $300M.
