Strong Storms and Heavy Rainfall Threats; Dangerous Heat for Southern Plains into the Southwest

Thunderstorms, some severe, will impact areas of the Plains into the Midwest today. Rainfall can be locally heavy as well from these storms with isolated instances of flash flooding. 2023 New Mexico Fire Weather Overview



2023 was a much less active fire weather season compared to 2022. However, there were still some notable fires across the region. High winds and very low humidity did occur on several days however we avoided prolonged stretches of fire weather for the most part. There was a total of four large wildfires across northern and central NM of which the largest burned roughly 2,200 acres. A brief "Summary of the 2023 Fire Weather Season" details some of these more significant fires to impact New Mexico.
