Early Spring Heat Wave in the Southwest U.S.; Critical Fire Weather in the Central Rockies and Plains

An unusual early Spring heat wave will continue much above-normal temperatures over the Southwest U.S. through early next week. 2023 New Mexico Fire Weather Overview



2023 was a much less active fire weather season compared to 2022. However, there were still some notable fires across the region. High winds and very low humidity did occur on several days however we avoided prolonged stretches of fire weather for the most part. There was a total of four large wildfires across northern and central NM of which the largest burned roughly 2,200 acres. A brief "Summary of the 2023 Fire Weather Season" details some of these more significant fires to impact New Mexico.
