Areas of Severe Thunderstorms and Excessive Rainfall through This Weekend

Several rounds of severe thunderstorms are ongoing and expected from the central and southern High Plains to the Southeast U.S. through Sunday. Large hail, damaging winds, and a few tornadoes will be possible. Low pressure systems moving through and tightening pressure gradients across the area has been the general trend since this past Tuesday. Below is a summary of peak wind gusts recorded at our Automated Surface Observing System (ASOS) sites since that time. Displayed on each map are isobars, or lines of equal pressure. As a general rule, the tighter the isobars, the stronger the winds.
