Heavy Rain and Mountain Snow Lingers in California; Winter Storm Impacting the Great Lakes and Northeast U.S.

An atmospheric river will wind down through today across California with lingering heavy rainfall, heavy mountain snow, and gusty winds. A wintry mix of freezing rain, sleet, and snow will cause hazardous travel conditions for the Great Lakes into the northern Mid-Atlantic and southern New England today through Saturday morning. April 28th, 1994:

Snow accumulated 5 to 12 inches over most of the eastern half of South Dakota, with the 12-inch report from Winner. Ten to eleven inches of snow was reported at numerous places, including Sioux Falls and Platte in the southeast and Summit in the northeast. Numerous accidents were caused by snow and ice, including one that killed a man and injured two women on Highway 12 near Bath, South Dakota. There was some undetermined crop damage, and livestock loss was feared as the late-season cold and snow lowered disease resistance.
