Cold Front Moving Through the Northeast U.S. Monday; Atmospheric River to Impact the Pacific Northwest Midweek

A cold front will cross the Great Lakes and Northeast U.S. through Monday with gusty winds and areas of rain showers. A strong atmospheric river is expected to move into the Pacific Northwest by midweek bringing a threat for moderate to heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and mountain snows for parts of Washington, Oregon, northern California, and the Sierra Nevada. Overview

On August 9, 2024, Post-Tropical Cyclone Debby brought widespread moderate to heavy rainfall and gusty winds to eastern New York and western New England. Total rainfall accumulations ranged from 1 to 3 inches in most areas with locally up to 4 inches resulting in several instances of flash flooding, especially across eastern New York. Wind gusts ranging between 35 and 50 mph led to several reports of downed trees and power lines resulting in some power outages. Additionally, an EF0 tornado was confirmed by a National Weather Service Storm Survey in Ulster County. New York Governor Kathy Hochul declared a State of Emergency due to the flooding, thunderstorms and tornado that occurred across the state.
