Last Map Update: Sat, May 9, 2026 at 3:42:23 pm CDT

Severe thunderstorms will be possible Saturday afternoon into the early evening across the eastern Panhandles. This threat is conditional as it will depend upon a few factors including the placement of a dryline. If storms do become severe, large hail and damaging wind gusts will be the primary hazards. The chance for strong to severe thunderstorms will decrease by midnight, but the chance may not be zero.
If severe thunderstorms can develop on Saturday, the most likely time is between 5 PM to 8 PM across the eastern Panhandles. However, there is a very low chance, less than 5%, for a severe thunderstorm after 8 PM and before 1 AM Sunday.
Thunderstorms will be possible this afternoon and evening along a dryline that is favored to set up in the eastern Panhandles. There is a 10-25% chance to see any rain across most of the eastern Panhandles but a 25-35% chance across a portion of the northeastern combined Panhandles. However, if the dryline sets up too far east, then most of the threat for thunderstorms and the chance to see rain will be pushed east into western Oklahoma.
A cold front will move in Saturday night which will usher in breezy northerly winds for Sunday morning and cooler temperatures throughout the day. The strongest winds are expected between 6 AM to 1 PM.
Rain and isolated thunderstorm are expected to continue into Sunday morning as a cold front moves into the Panhandles.
Temperatures will become hot next week with consecutive days in the 90s, and even the potential for some to touch the triple digits. Heat Risk, which attempts to define the level of heat stress on any given day using the forecast highs, lows, longevity of the heat, and it factors in seasonal acclimation. Using these factors, we are expecting a moderate Heat Risk next week with a 10-20% chance to see a major Heat Risk in the southern and eastern combined Panhandles.
