Western New York Weather History

APRIL 11

1965

The infamous palm Sunday tornadoes in the Indiana/Ohio/Michigan area missed western New York. The weather pattern however was conducive to thunderstorms, recorded at the airport, and golf ball-sized hail fell in Hamburg.

1992

Evening thunderstorms developed across the western southern tier in a southerly flow of warm, moist air. The thunderstorms produced winds which downed numerous trees and power lines. Widespread power outages were reported in the Towns of Belmont and Randolph as well as West Valley, Angelica and Rushford.

1999

Thunderstorms developed rapidly over extreme eastern Lake Erie then moved onshore. The thunderstorms produced three-quarter inch hail and gusty winds in Silver Creek, Chautauqua county.
