Dangerous Heat in the Central and Southern U.S.; Thunderstorms and Heavy Rain in the Northern Plains

Dangerous, prolonged heat is expected across portions of the Central and Southeast U.S. through July. Scattered severe thunderstorms are expected over parts of the northern Plains into the upper Mississippi Valley Tuesday, with damaging winds and large hail as the primary threats. 1879

A windstorm occurred across the Niagara Frontier. Considerable damage resulted from the storm. Signs and chimneys were blown down, roofs carried out, water rose in the Buffalo Harbor about 5 feet above ordinary level. Several boats broke loose from their moorings and collided. Bridges were carried away and several elevators damaged. Ice was driven into the river and harbor and heaped against the breakwaters and piers. Wires of telegraph companies and fire alarms were blown down. No loss of life learned of.

2004

Scattered thunderstorms developed in the vicinity of a warm front during the early morning hours. The thunderstorms produced large hail across southern Jefferson, Lewis and Oswego counties. Most reports were dime to penny size, but a report of ping pong ball sized hail which covered the ground was relayed by the Jefferson county Sheriff in the Town of Henderson .
