Heavy Rainfall to Continue Through Tonight in Central Texas; Heat in the East, Interior Northwest, and Southwest

Isolated heavy rainfall will continue through tonight across portions of central Texas, though some relief from the heavy rain is expected on Tuesday. Heat and humidity will remain in place across the Eastern U.S. and interior Northwest U.S. over the next few days with widespread moderate to major Heat Risk. 1993

A lightning strike killed nine dairy cows at a farm in Orangeville, Wyoming county. The cows were found dead, huddled under an apple tree where they apparently were seeking shelter from the storm. The dairy cows were valued at $1500 each.

Further east, An isolated severe thunderstorm moved along the northeast portion of Oswego County. The initial damage from the storm, determined to be caused by strong thunderstorm winds, occurred in the Town of Texas where a large tree was blown onto a house. The resident there also reported golfball size hail at the time. The thunderstorm then spawned a weak tornado in Mexico which caused only tree damage for a path of one- to one-and-a-half miles.

1994

Thunderstorms that formed in warm, moist air produced damaging winds during the afternoon hours across parts of the western southern tier and Genesee Valley. The strong winds downed trees and wires. In addition, the heavy rains from the thunderstorms (three to four inches in some spots) resulted in flash floods and closed roads.

2000

Thunderstorms moved across the western southern tier during the afternoon hours. The thunderstorm winds downed trees and power lines. Torrential rains resulted in localized poor drainage flooding. In Greenhurst, Chautauqua county, winds were estimated at 70 mph. The high wind lifted a Piper Cub off the water of Chautauqua Lake and crashed it onto a boat and a dock. The plane was a total loss. Damage was also reported in Clymer, Mayville and Scio.

2002

An isolated thunderstorm produced downburst winds in Port Leyden, Lewis County during the early morning hours. Amateur radio spotters reported power outages and large tree limbs down.
