AUGUST 12 1935 In some sections of western New York particularly in the vicinity of Fredonia, Dunkirk, and Jamestown, a severe wind and thunderstorm occurred. Included in the damage were the following: power and light lines blown down in Westfield and vicinity, $3000; a barn at Stockton was destroyed by fire caused by lightning, estimated damage $3000; crop damages in the Jamestown area, particularly to peach and apple orchards $10000; damage to barn one mile east of Dunkirk that was struck by lightning, $1500. Some trees were blown down and in some cases highways were blocked. At Buffalo during the windstorm the Coast Guard rescued a fisherman whose boat was being swamped by high waves off the breakwall. A maximum velocity of 50 mph from the southwest was reported at the Weather Bureau during the storm. 2002 Thunderstorms crossed the western southern tier during the afternoon hours. The thunderstorms produced damaging winds that downed trees and limbs in Ellington and Allegany and hail up to 3/4" in diameter in Perry. 2005 Severe storms developed along a cold front downing trees and power lines and spawning a weak tornado north of Wellsville, near Madison Hill Road. Damage was minor, mainly downed trees.
