Unsettled Weather Continuing over the Western and Eastern U.S. into Mid Week

Two storm systems, one over the Desert Southwest, and one over the Ohio Valley, will continue to bring unsettled weather and cooler temperatures into the middle of the week. Moderate to heavy rainfall, along with the potential for flash flooding, is forecast from the Ohio Valley to the East Coast. AUGUST 13

 

1963 

Heavy rain caused local street and cellar flooding in Buffalo and vicinity. At the Buffalo Airport, 2.23 inches of rain was recorded. This storm was accompanied by the record low sea-level pressure for August of 29.40 inches.

1994

Heavy rains resulted in flash flooding over the western southern tier counties. Many streets and some basements flooded. Roads were closed by flood waters in Andover, Olean and Jamestown.

2001

Thunderstorms crossed the Niagara Frontier during the early afternoon hours. Lightning struck a 58-unit senior hosing facility in Wheatfield, Niagara county. Sixteen apartment were completely destroyed while a good portion of the remainder of the complex sustained smoke and water damage. In Grand Island, Erie County, a mail carrier was struck by lightning while delivering the mail. Lightning struck the mailbox and the 37-year-old male suffered burns on his right arm, from elbow to hand, and also experienced impaired movement in his hand.

2002

A lightning strike during the early morning hours caused an estimated $30,000 damage to an apartment building in Snyder, Erie County . The fire started in the attic of the two-story complex.
