Prolonged, Intense Heat Wave; Excessive Rainfall in the Southern Rockies; Severe Weather in the Central US

Extremely dangerous heat will persist from the Midwest to the East Coast into late this week. Monsoonal moisture may produce excessive rain and considerable flash flooding and debris flows, especially near recent burn scar areas in New Mexico and west Texas. JULY 17 

 

1992

An isolated thunderstorm spawned a small tornado in Franklinville in Cattaraugus County. The tornado shredded trees as it crossed several yards. At one point, the tornado lifted a gazebo over a house and carried it 100 feet away. Eyewitnesses reported hearing a train sound just before the damage occurred.

1999

A severe thunderstorm which developed along the Lake Ontario shoreline produced downpours and damaging winds in Porter. The Niagara County Sheriff reported power outages and six to eight inch tree limbs down.

2000

A line of thunderstorms which moved across Lake Ontario came onshore downing trees and power lines in Niagara and Orleans counties. Large hail, up to ¾ inch in diameter, was reported in Newfane, Wilson and Cambria.
