Strong to Severe Thunderstorms in the East; Heat in the Central and Western U.S.

Strong to potentially severe thunderstorms with damaging wind gusts are forecast Thursday from parts of New England into the Mid Atlantic and Carolinas. Significant heat will expand across the West and Central Plains through Friday, potentially breaking daily high temperature records. 1991 

Afternoon thunderstorms developed over southern Erie and Chautauqua counties in a warm, very humid, southwest flow which prevailed over the area. The thunderstorms produced damaging winds (gusting over 45 mph) which downed trees and power lines in Evans and Angola in Erie county and Jamestown in Chautauqua county. Marble-size hail was reported in the town of Harmony and the city of Jamestown. 

1993

Thunderstorms accompanied a cold front which crossed the area. The thunderstorms downed trees and power lines in Wayne, Cayuga, and Oswego counties. Two small tornadoes were spawned…one in Red Creek, Wayne county, and the other in Constantia, Oswego county. tornadoes. Hail...up to golfball size...fell in some areas. In Orleans County, the hail caused damage to apple and cherry crops.

2000

Thunderstorms moved across the eastern Lake Ontario region during the afternoon hours. The thunderstorms produced damaging winds which downed trees and power lines. In Watertown, falling trees caused damage to a house. Route 17 in Redfield was closed by fallen trees. Damage was also reported in Lowville.

Thunderstorms moving across Allegany county brought a second round of heavy rains to the county during the afternoon hours. Some locations had received as much as four to five inches of rain. In Willing, several roads were washed out and basements flooded.
