MARCH 29

1984

Late season snowstorm...The Southern Tier was battered with strong winds and up to 15 inches of wet, heavy snow. Totals of one to two feet were found across the Finger Lakes region. Numerous cars were stuck in ditches and many minor accidents were reported. Eleven out of fourteen school districts closed in Allegany county. At the Buffalo Airport, two inches of snow was received.

1993

28th-30th…Melting snow from the blizzard of the 13th-14th combined with mild temperatures and spring rains to produce flooding on some area creeks and rivers. The most significant flooding occurred along the Black Creek in Monroe County. A dozen homes along the creek were surrounded by water. The Tonawanda Creek overflowed its banks along the Erie/Niagara County border. Large segments of roads were inundated and still closed at month's end. Water filled backyards and surrounded a few homes. A tributary at the headwaters of the Genesee River caused flooding in Allegany County. The Genesee River rose just above flood stage at Avon and Rochester in spite of closure of all gates at Mount Morris Dam. The dam stored over five inches of runoff and used 85% of its storage capacity.
