MAY 1
1991 A strong cold front crossed the area producing severe thunderstorms, two of which spawned two small tornadoes. A tornado touched down in Eden in Erie County. Several dozen trees were downed or damaged. The most extensive damage occurred when a large tree was uprooted and fell across the corner of a house. A barn on the property also sustained major damage as the west side of the second floor was torn off. Another tornado touched down in the Town of Java, Wyoming Co., and was embedded in a larger area of strong downburst wind. About thirty trees were damaged or destroyed in the mostly wooded area. The roof of a visitors center was torn off and one tree fell on and damaged a cabin. The thunderstorm winds uprooted trees and downed power lines across the area. Specific damage reports included: several twelve inch diameter trees downed in Dansville; a barn was damaged in Farmington; a small plane parked at Monroe County Airport, Rochester, was overturned; the New York State Police station in Henrietta had a portion of its roof blown away; wind removed a roof from a home in Pittsford; a 12x12 foot storage shed was moved 75 feet in Henrietta; a garage roof was blown off in Fulton; a barn was blown down in Caughdenoy and another in Orleans. 1997 Low pressure moving across Ontario brought strong southwest winds to the extreme western counties of New York including Chautauqua, Erie and Niagara. The high winds toppled trees and power lines causing scattered power outages throughout the area. Minor structure damage was caused by the falling trees in Jamestown, Buffalo and Lockport. 2003 Thunderstorms rolled across the area during the morning and early afternoon hours. Across the western sections the thunderstorms produced hail up to 1.75 inches. Hail was reported in Rochester , Little Valley and Warsaw . Over the north country, strong thunderstorm winds downed trees in Watson. In Erie county, a lightning strike damaged the roof of a Town of Clarence home.
