1991 A strong flow of cold air across the warm waters of Lakes Erie and Ontario produced lake effect snow squalls. Between six inches and a foot of snow fell in localized areas to the lee of the lakes. Specific reports were as follows: Erie County - Cheektowaga 8", Lancaster 7"; Niagara County - Tonawanda 6"; Lewis County - Barnes Corners 12"; Jefferson County - Adams Center 12", Fort Drum 10". 1995 An early season lake effect snow event brought significant accumulations to portions of western and central New York. The snow began Friday evening (November 3rd) in the Western Southern Tier, and over the Eastern Lake Ontario Counties shortly after midnight early Saturday morning (November 4th). By the time the snow ended late Saturday night and early Sunday morning, between four and eight inches of heavy, wet snow accumulated in portions of Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties. Higher amounts of between 10 and 14 inches were reported in portions of Oswego and southern Lewis counties. The snow was accompanied by thunder and lightning at a few locations as well.
