The National Weather Service storm survey team confirms an
EF-0 tornadic waterspout came on land near West River Road
and Third Avenue on Grand Island in Erie County. This tornado
proceeded southeast with the most significant damage being a
couple of uprooted softwood trees along First Street and
Second Avenue. Otherwise, mainly tree limb damage was noted
along the path of the tornado as it proceeded southeast and
crossed White Haven Road near the White Haven Road Cemetery,
where damage tailed off and no other damage was noted
downstream. The limited nature of tree damage and shallow
root system of the few uprooted softwood trees yielded an
estimated peak intensity of EF-0 with a maximum wind estimate
of 85 mph.

The National Weather Service extends its thanks to Erie County
Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Services for
their guidance in today`s survey.

A National Weather Service Storm Survey Team confirms a brief,
weak EF-0 tornado in the town of Pembroke from the evening of
Monday September 9, 2024. The tornado touched down along Route 77
near the Hamlet of Indian Falls, producing tree damage at 3
residences. Several hardwood and softwood trees were snapped or
uprooted, and several more had large limbs blown down. All of the
trees damaged at this location showed significant amounts of trunk
rot. One home and one garage suffered some roof damage due to
tree limbs falling on them, but none of the structures had any
direct damage from the wind. The tornado continued in an easterly
direction across a farm field and into a wooded area along and
just south of Little Falls Road, where several more softwood trees
were blown down. These trees also exhibited rot near their bases.
The very limited nature of the damage and the fact that all trees
involved were in poor condition yields a peak intensity of EF-0
with maximum winds estimated at 75 mph.

The National Weather Service thanks the Genesee County Office of
Emergency Management for their assistance in today`s survey.
