...JUNE 2026 CLIMATE NARRATIVE FOR NORTHERN/EASTERN MAINE...

June Trends:

Caribou:
- Mean maximum temperatures were 1.4 degrees above average.
- Mean minimum temperatures were 1.0 degrees above average.
- Average temperatures were 1.2 degrees above average.
- Precipitation was 0.84 inches above average.

Bangor:
- Mean maximum temperatures were 2.1 degrees above average.
- Mean minimum temperatures were around 0.6 degrees above average.
June 2026 has the 3rd lowest June minimum temperature (36 degrees)
at BGR, behind 2002 and 2020.
- Average temperatures were 1.4 degrees above normal. June 2026
ranked the 10th highest mean average temperatures, at 65F. The
highest mean average temperature was 67.7 in 2021.
- Monthly precipitation has been marked as missing. There were 4
days of missing data, which included a day with significant
precipitation. So the current precipitation record will be lower
than the true amount that fell, which will also impact Bangor
records for the upcoming season and annual write-ups.

Millinocket:
- Mean maximum temperatures were 2.3 degrees above average. June
2026 had the 9th highest record maximum temperature for June, at 89
degrees.
- Mean minimum temperatures were 1.8 degrees above average. June
2026 had the 5th lowest minimum temperature for June, at 33 degrees.
It also recorded the 8th warmest mean June minimum temperatures, at
53.3F.
- Average temperatures were 2.1 degrees above average.
- Precipitation was 0.97 inches above average.

Houlton:
- Mean maximum temperatures were 1.6 degrees above average.
- Mean minimum temperatures were 1.0 degrees above average. June
2026 recorded the 4th coldest June low temperature on record, at 30
degrees.
- Average temperatures were 1.3 degrees above average.
- Precipitation was 0.89 inches below average

Weather Events:
- There were 10 severe thunderstorm warnings in June. Most notable
damage with some of these storms were wind damage, resulting in
downed trees and some power outages.
- There were 5 flash flood warnings in June.
- The persistent drought improved in June. By the end of May, all
of Aroostook and most of central Washington removed drought. Far
northern Piscataquis, north and central Penobscot, most of northern
and coastal Hancock and coastal Washington, were Abnormally Dry
(D0). The majority of northern Somerset, majority of Piscataquis,
western Penobscot, and far western Hancock were in Moderate Drought
(D1). By June 16th, northern Somerset, majority of Piscataquis were
downgraded to Abnormally Dry (D0). By June 23rd, northern Somerset,
Piscataquis, and central Penobscot were removed from drought. By
June 30th, Washington and central Hancock counties were removed from
drought.

Climate Outlook:
- Temperatures: For July, Climate Prediction Center (CPC) is
forecasting above normal temperatures in northern and eastern Maine.
For the season ahead, outlook shows temperatures could lean above
climatological normal in northern Maine, and will likely be above
climate normals Downeast.
- Precipitation: For July, CPC is forecasting for above normal
precipitation in northern and eastern Maine. For the season ahead,
outlook shows a chance for above normal precipitation throughout
Downeast Maine.
- ENSO: Per CPC, El Nino conditions are present, with an El Nino
Advisory in effect. El Nino is expected to strengthen in to winter
2026-2027.
