Northern Maine Heat Wave August 10th-August 13th

...HEAT WAVE FOR NORTHERN MAINE AUGUST 10TH THROUGH AUGUST 13TH...

Several high temperature records were broken in Northern Maine this 
week.

In Caribou, the high temperature exceeded 90 degrees for four 
consecutive days (August 10th-August 13th). This ties the longest 
streak of days reaching or exceeding 90 degrees on record for 
Caribou. the other stretches were August 29th-September 1st, 2010, 
July 25th-July 28th, 1969, and June 15th-June 18th, 1949. 

This four-day stretch was the warmest on record for Caribou 
in terms of average temperature (highs and lows). The average 
temperature for August 10th-August 13th was 79.0 degrees. This 
topped the old record of 78.9 degrees, which occurred July 26th-July 
29th, 1963.

In addition, Caribou recorded high temperatures of 94 degrees 
for three straight days (August 11th-August 13th). This 
ties the record streak, previously set on May 22nd-May 24th, 
1977. 

The high temperatures for August 11th through the 13th were also 
daily records for Caribou. The old daily records were 92 degrees 
(2020), 93 degrees (1944), and 92 degrees (2021), respectively. 
Records in Caribou date back to 1939.

In Houlton, the high temperature exceeded 90 degrees for four 
consecutive days (August 10th-August 13th). This was the third 
longest streak of days reaching or exceeding 90 degrees on record 
for Houlton. The two longer streaks lasted 8 days (July 23rd-July 
30th, 1970) and 6 days (June 13th-June 18th, 1949). In addition, the 
temperature reached 94 degrees on both August 11th and August 12th. 
This was the fourth time the high reached at least 94 degrees on 
back-to-back days in Houlton. The other occurrences were June 20th-
June 21st, 2020, July 19th-July 20th, 1991, August 1st-August 22nd,
1975, and July 10th-July 11th, 1955.

The high temperatures on August 11th (94 degrees), 12th (94 
degrees), and 13th (93 degrees) set new daily records in Houlton. 
The old daily records were 91 degrees (2020), 91 degrees (2021), 
and 91 degrees (2021), respectively. Records in Houlton date 
back to 1948.

In Millinocket, the high temperature exceeded 90 degrees for four 
consecutive days (August 10th-August 13th). However, this was not
in the top-10 longest streaks of days at or above 90 degrees on 
record in Millinocket. That said, the temperature reached or 
exceeded 95 degrees for three straight days (August 11th-August 
13th). This was the second longest stretch on record in 
Millinocket, and the longest in more than 100 years. The longest 
streak of days at or above 95 degrees on record is 6 days (July 
6th-July 11th, 1912).

The high temperatures on August 11th (97 degrees), 12th (96 
degrees), and 13th (95 degrees) set new daily records in 
Millinocket. The old daily records were 96 degrees (1944), 94 
degrees (1944), and 95 degrees (2002), respectively. Records in 
Millinocket date back to 1903.

No high temperature records were set in Bangor this week. Records in 
Bangor date back to 1925.
