Due to the government shutdown the original implementation date of January 8, 2019 was changed to February 8, 2019. Public Information Statement National Weather Service Cleveland OH 932 AM EDT Wed Oct 17 2018 ...River Forecast Services for the Grand River at Painesville Ohio will be modified effective January 8, 2019... Effective Tuesday January 8, 2019 the National Weather Service (NWS) will change the flood stage at the Grand River official forecast point at Painesville. The minor flood stage will change from 8.0 feet to 12.5 feet. This change is the result of the closure of a portion of Vrooman Road. The permanent closure of the flood origination point on Vrooman Road invalidates the need for the lower flood stage. Moderate and major flood stages of 15.0 and 17.0 feet respectively remain valid and will not be changed. It is necessary for the National Weather Service to periodically update flood stages at river forecast points as changes, both natural and man-made, occur over a watershed. These updates are needed to ensure the best quality river forecasts and resulting warnings to local communities. The NWS, Ohio River Forecast Center (OHRFC), and Local and County Officials have supported the above corrections. The data and forecasts for its site can be found at: water.noaa.gov/gauges/PNVO1 Additional river forecasts can be found at: water.noaa.gov/wfo/CLE The data for these sites are provided by our partner the USGS. Without this critical data forecasts and warnings would not be possible.
