Overview

A cross-country winter storm impacted much of the central and eastern United States on January 25-26, 2026, bringing widespread snow, sleet, and freezing rain. Northern Ohio and Northwest Pennsylvania remained on the cold side of this storm system, resulting in all of the precipitation falling as snow. Abundant moisture from the Gulf and strong lift from the low pressure system led to periods of moderate to heavy snowfall on Sunday, the 25th. The snow began in the early morning hours, with the heaviest and steadiest snowfall occurring from mid Sunday morning through the afternoon. The widespread snow tapered off Sunday evening and transitioned to lingering lake-effect snow showers across the snowbelt regions of Northeast Ohio and Northwest Pennsylvania by Monday morning, the 26th. These snow showers lasted through Monday afternoon before diminishing.

Snowfall totals from Sunday the 25th through Monday the 26th averaged 6 to 10 inches in most of northern Ohio and Northwest Pennsylvania, with a narrower swath of 10 to 15 inches along and south of the US-30 corridor east of I-71.
