A HOT August for Duluth

** Several New Climate Records Have Been Set at Duluth This Month ** 

 

 

Here are some Heat-Related Climate Facts:

The latest calendar day the Duluth Airport has recorded a 90 degree temperature is September 19th. The warmest temperature observed at the Duluth Airport in the month of August was 97 degrees F on August 1st 1930. Temperature records for the Duluth area date back to 1874.

The longest stretch of consecutive 80 degree days in Duluth recorded history is 15 days. Today, August 26th, is the 12th day in row of at least an 80 degree temperature.   

The latest calendar day the International Falls Airport has recorded a 90 degree temperature is September 27th. The warmest temperature observed at the International Falls, MN Airport in the month of August was 96 degrees on August 9th, 1920.

The low temperature of 77 degrees on August 25th tied for the third warmest low temperature in Duluth weather history. It was also the warmest low ever recorded in the month of August.

The Duluth Airport set a new daily High Temperature record of 91 degrees F for August 20th. This breaks the old reocrd of 89 that was set in 1976. The Duluth Airport recorded a minimum temperature on August 20th of only 69 degrees F. This breaks the old record of 68 deegrees as the warmest minimum temperature on record for this date. The Duluth Airport missed reaching the record high on Wednesday, August 21st, by just two degrees with a high temperature of 88 F. Although the overnight low Wednesday morning was a very warm 73 degrees F, the temperature dropped off rapidly Wednesday evening, falling below the current record for the date of 69 degrees F set in 1976.
