Cold Front Moving Through the Northeast U.S. Monday; Atmospheric River to Impact the Pacific Northwest Midweek

A cold front will cross the Great Lakes and Northeast U.S. through Monday with gusty winds and areas of rain showers. A strong atmospheric river is expected to move into the Pacific Northwest by midweek bringing a threat for moderate to heavy rainfall, gusty winds, and mountain snows for parts of Washington, Oregon, northern California, and the Sierra Nevada. Fall 2021 featured warmer than average temperatures and varying amounts of precipitation across the region. Precipitation was below average in northwest Wisconsin, and generally above or around average in northeast Minnesota. Snowfall up to December 1 was below normal, but after the early December storm, that trend has reversed for some areas.

The CPC is forecasting equal chances to above average probabilities for warmer than normal temperatures and precipitation. This may lead to further drought improvements across the region.
