A system is expected to develop across the southern tier of the U.S. and produce a few hazards. Isolated strong to severe thunderstorms and locally heavy rain is possible from southeast Texas to southwest Louisiana, while heavy accumulating snow is expected across parts of Kansas and Oklahoma. JANUARY 2016 WAS WARMER AND WETTER THAN NORMAL AT DULUTH MN... THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR JANUARY WAS 12.8 DEGREES WHICH WAS 2.6 DEGREES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 10.2 DEGREES MAKING THIS THE 33RD WARMEST JANUARY IN STATION HISTORY. THE HIGHEST TEMPERATURE FOR THE MONTH WAS 41 DEGREES ON THE 30TH. THE LOWEST TEMPERATURE WAS -21 DEGREES ON THE 11TH AND THE 17TH. NO DAILY TEMPERATURE RECORDS WERE BROKEN FOR THE MONTH. TEN DAYS HAD AVERAGE TEMPERATURES BELOW NORMAL. 

 

JANUARY 2016 WAS SLIGHTLY ABOVE NORMAL FOR PRECIPITATION WITH A TOTAL OF 1.05 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION RECORDED FOR THE MONTH. THIS WAS 0.09 INCHES ABOVE THE NORMAL OF 0.96 INCHES MAKING THIS THE 46TH WETTEST JANUARY IN STATION HISTORY. THE GREATEST AMOUNT OF PRECIPITATION IN A 24 HOUR PERIOD OCCURRED FROM THE 24TH THROUGH THE 25TH WHEN 0.23 INCHES WAS RECORDED. AT LEAST A TRACE OF PRECIPITATION WAS RECORDED ON 28 DAYS. AT LEAST 0.01 INCHES OF PRECIPITATION FELL ON 12 DAYS. AT LEAST 0.10 INCHES FELL ON 4 DAYS.
