November 2016 was warmer than normal with

above normal precipitation at Duluth MN

The average temperature for November was 40.2 degrees which was 11.4 degrees above the normal of 28.8 degrees making this the 2nd warmest November in station history. The warmest November in station history stands in 1899 with an average temperature of 40.6 degrees (click here to see an archive of the original record). The highest temperature for the month was 70 degrees on the 5th and the 6th. The lowest temperature for the month was 10 degrees on the 20th. Two daily temperature record were broken for the month, in addition one daily temperature record was tied. A record high of 70 degrees was set on the 5th breaking the previous record of 68 degrees set in 1968. A record high of 70 degrees was set on the 6th breaking the previous record of 66 degrees set in 1916. On the 10th the record high of 64 degrees was tied, which was set in 1917. Three days had average temperature below normal.

November 2016 was above normal for precipitation with a total of 2.60 inches of precipitation recorded for the month. This was 0.51 inches above the normal of 2.09 inches. The greatest amount of precipitation in a 24 hour period occurred on the 17th to the 18th when 0.92 inches was recorded. At least a trace of precipitation was recorded on 14 days. At least 0.01 inches of precipitation fell on 11 days. At least 0.10 inches fell on 6 days. At least 0.50 inches fell on 2 days. There was 8.1 inches of snow for the month which is 5.6 inches below the normal of 13.7 inches. The greatest amount of snow in a 24 hour period occurred on the 22nd to the 23rd when 4.1 inches was recorded. One daily precipitation record was broken for the month. On the 18th 0.87 inches of precipitation was recorded breaking the previous record of 0.75 inches set in 1991. No snowfall records were broken for the month.

The average wind speed for the month was 9.7 mph. The windiest day of the month was on the 18th with an average wind of 20.0 mph. The highest sustained wind occurred on the 18th with a speed of 32 mph out of the northwest. A peak wind gust of 45 mph out of the north was also recorded on the 18th.

There were 735 heating degree days for the month which was 353 below the normal of 1088. This brought the seasonal total to 1482 which was 731 below the normal of 2213. There were 0 cooling degree days for the month which was normal. The seasonal total cooling degree days for the month stands at 281 which was 77 above the normal of 204. The highest sea level pressure for the month was 30.51 inches reached on the 11th and the lowest sea level pressure reading was 28.99 inches reached on the 29th.

November 2016 was warmer than normal with

above normal precipitation at International Falls MN

The average temperature for November was 37.2 degrees which was 11.7 degrees above the normal of 25.5 degrees making this the warmest November in station history. The highest temperature for the month was 71 degrees on the 6th. The lowest temperature was 8 degrees on the 20th. Five daily temperature records were broken for the month. A record high of 71 degrees was set on the 6th breaking the previous record of 65 degrees set in 1975. A record high of 64 degrees was set on the 7th breaking the previous record of 63 degrees set in 1981. A record high of 65 degrees was set on the 9th breaking the previous record of 64 degrees set in 2010. A record high of 61 degrees was set on the 12th breaking the previous record of 60 degrees set in 1981. A record high of 63 degrees was set on the 13th breaking the previous record of 61 degrees set in 1981. Three days had average temperature below normal.

November 2016 was below normal for precipitation with a total of 1.80 inches of precipitation recorded for the month. This was 0.42 inches above the normal of 1.38 inches. The greatest amount of precipitation in a 24 hour period occurred on the 18th when 0.68 inches was recorded. At least a trace of precipitation was recorded on 14 days. At least 0.01 inches fell on 12 days. At least 0.10 inches fell on 6 days. At least 0.50 inches fell on 1 day. There was 8.4 inches of snow for the month which is 5.3 inches below the normal of 13.7 inches. The greatest amount of snow in a 24 hour period occurred on the 18th when 3.4 inches was recorded. No daily precipitation records were broken for the month. 

The average wind spreed for the month was 7.0 mph. The windiest day for the month was on the 18th with an average wind of 15.6 mph. The highest sustained wind occurred on the 10th with a speed of 29 mph out of the northwest. A peak wind gust of 38 mph was recorded on the 10th out of the north. 

There were 825 heating degree days for the month which was 359 below the normal of 1184. This brought the seasonal total to 1806 which was 655 below the normal of 2461. There were 0 cooling degree days for the month which was normal. The seasonal total cooling degrees days stands at 155 which is 37 below the normal of 192. The highest sea level pressure for the month was 30.55 inches reached on the 11th and the lowest sea level pressure reading was 29.08 inches reached on the 29th.

Normal snowfall for December is 31.0 inches.

For both locations the latest Climate Prediction Center (CPC) outlook indicates that there is no clear indication for above or below normal temperatures with a chance of above normal precipitation.
