October 2016 was warmer than normal with

below normal precipitation at Duluth MN

 

The average temperature for October was 47.6 degrees which was 4.4 degrees above the normal of 43.2 degrees making this tied for the 17th warmest October in station history. The highest temperature for the month was 74 degrees on the 10th . The lowest temperature was 30 degrees on the 9th. No daily temperature records were broken for the month. Eight days had average temperatures below normal.

October 2016 was below normal for precipitation with a total of 1.55 inches of precipitation recorded for the month. This was 1.30 inches below the normal of 2.85 inches. The greatest amount of precipitation in a 24 hour period occurred on the 16th to the 17th when 0.64 inches was recorded. At least a trace of precipitation was recorded on 15 days. At least 0.01 inches of precipitation fell on 8 days. At least 0.10 inches fell on 6 days. There was a trace of snow for the month which is 2.3 inches below the normal of 2.3 inches. This ties the second least snowiest October in station history. No daily precipitation records were broken for the month. 

The average wind speed for the month was 10.0 mph.  The windiest day of the month was on the 10th with an average wind of 16.5 mph. The highest sustained wind occurred on the 5th and the 16th with a speed of 29 mph. A peak wind gust of 39 mph was recorded on the 16th.

There were 531 heating degree days for the month which was 147 below the normal of 678. This brought the seasonal total to 747 which was 378 below normal of 1125. There were 0 cooling degree days for the month which was normal. The seasonal total cooling degree days stands at 281 which was 77 above the normal of 204. The highest sea level pressure for the month was 30.20 inches reached on the 2nd and the lowest sea level pressure reading was 29.56 inches reached on the 1st.

October 2016 was warmer than normal with

below normal precipitation at International Falls MN

 

The average temperature for October was 44.6 degrees which was 3.5 degrees above the normal of 41.1 degrees making this the 18th warmest October in station history. The highest temperature for the month was 73 degrees on the 2nd and 3rd. The lowest temperature was 21 degrees on the 24th. No daily temperature records were broken for the month. Thirteen days had average temperature below normal. 

October 2016 was below normal for precipitation with a total of 1.48 inches of precipitation recorded for the month. This was 0.60 inches below the normal of 2.08 inches. The greatest amount of precipitation in a 24 hour period occurred on the 11th when 0.58 inches was recorded. At least a trace of precipitation was recorded on 15 days. At least 0.01 inches fell on 13 days. At least 0.10 inches fell on 5 days. At least 0.50 inches fell on 1 day. There was a trace of snow for the month which is 2.2 inches below the normal of 2.2 inches. This ties the second least snowiest October in station history. No daily precipitation records were broken for the month.

The average wind speed for the month was 7.1 mph. The windiest day for the month was on the 5th with an average wind of 13.1 mph. The highest sustained wind occurred on the 5th and the 31st with a speed of 24 mph out of the southwest. A peak gust of 35 mph was recorded on the 5th and the 31st. 

There were 626 heating degree days for the month which was 117 below the normal of 743. This brought the seasonal total to 981 which was 296 below the normal of 1277. There were 0 cooling degree days for the month which was normal. The seasonal total cooling degree days stands at 155 which is 37 below the normal of 192. The highest sea level pressure reading for the month was 30.21 inches reached on the 2nd and the lowest sea level pressure reading was 29.44 inches reached on the 1st.
