September 2016 was warmer than normal with

below normal precipitation at Duluth MN

 

The average temperature for September was 59.9 degrees which was 4.3 degrees above the normal of 55.6 degrees making this tied for the 10th warmest September in station history. The highest temperature for the month was 80 degrees on the 5th. The lowest temperature was 40 degrees on the 14th. No daily temperature records were broken for the month. Five days had average temperatures below normal. 

 

September 2016 was below normal for precipitation with a total of 3.52 inches of precipitation recorded for the month. This was 0.59 inches below the normal of 4.11 inches. The greatest amount of precipitation in a 24 hour period occurred on the 5th when 1.24 inches was recorded. At least a trace of precipitation was recorded on 19 days. At least 0.01 inches of precipitation fell on 15 days. At least 0.10 inches of precipitation fell on 6 days. At least 0.50 inches of precipitation fell on 3 days. At least 1 inch fell on 1 day. No daily precipitation records were broken for the month.

 

The average wind speed for the month was 9.9 mph. The windiest day of the month was on the 26th with an average wind of 20.0 mph. The highest sustained wind occurred on the 19th with a wind from the west at 33 mph. The highest peak wind gust for the month was also recorded on the 19th with a speed of 41 mph.

 

There were 162 heating degree days for the month which was 136 below the normal of 298. This brought the seasonal total to 216 which was 231 below the normal of 447. There were 14 cooling degree days for the month which was normal. The seasonal cooling degree days stands at 281 which was 77 above the normal of 204. The highest sea level pressure for the month was 30.54 inches reached on the 29th and the lowest sea level pressure reading was 29.68 inches reached on the 27th.

September 2016 was warmer than normal with

above normal precipitation at International Falls MN

 

The average temperature for September was 57.1 degrees which was 3.5 degrees above the normal of 53.6 degrees making this tied for the 12th warmest September in station history. The highest temperature for the month was 76 degrees on the 3rd, 4th and on the 11th. The lowest temperature was 33 degrees on the 14th. No daily temperature records were broken for the month. Four days had average temperatures below normal.

 

September 2016 was above normal for precipitation with a total of 3.33 inches of precipitation recorded for the month. This was 0.34 inches above the normal of 2.99 inches. The greatest amount of precipitation in a 24 hour period occurred on the 4th to the 5th when 1.01 inches was recorded. At least a trace of precipitation was recorded on 18 days. At least 0.01 inches fell on 14 days. At least 0.10 inches fell on 7 days. At least 0.50 inches fell on 3 days. No daily precipitation records were broken for the month.

 

The average wind speed for the month was 6.5 mph. The windiest day for the month was on the 26th with an average wind of 15.4 mph. The highest sustained wind occurred on the 19th with a speed of 25 mph out of the west. The peak wind gust for the month was also recorded on the 19th with a speed of 39 mph. 

 

There were 238 heating degree days for the month which was 115 below the normal of 353. This brought the seasonal total to 355 which was 179 below the normal of 534. There were 7 cooling degree days for the month which was 4 below the normal of 11. The seasonal cooling degrees days stands at 155 which is 37 below the normal of 192.
