Above Average Temperatures for Most Today; Winter Weather Returns to the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes

Well above average temperatures are forecast today into Wednesday over most of the lower 48 states away from the Gulf Coast. A storm system passing across southern Canada will bring a wintry mix to the upper Great Lakes today. A trailing cold front will then bring the wintry mix from the central Appalachians through the Northeast U.S. Wednesday and Thursday. Read More >

Winter Skywarn Spotter Training

Returning for 2025 is our special winter spotter course! This class covers winter weather science, the winter 2025-2026 outlook, how to measure and report winter weather to NWS, the new cold headlines for 2024-2025, and many resource available to stay up-to-date on the forecast. If you are unable to attend one of our live classes, you are welcome to watch the recording of last year's class below. All the content is the same aside from the winter outlook. You do NOT need to be an official spotter for our office to attend - classes are free and open to all. This presentation focuses on northeast Minnesota and northwest Wisconsin, but those outside our region are also welcome to watch, too. Registration is required for the virtual classes and the link can be found by clicking on the calendar entry below. No registration is required for the in-person class.
