Watching Hurricane Erin; Heavy Rainfall Threat for Upper Midwest; Heatrisk for Mississippi Valley

Hurricane Erin continues to track westward with its outer bands bringing heavy rainfall and gusty winds for Puerto Rico and US Virgin Islands. Life-threatening surf and rip currents are occurring and will spread across the Atlantic coasts this week. Cold mornings and cool days will last through Monday. A warming and drying trend will begin on Tuesday through the end of the coming work week. Moderate to locally Major HeatRisk is expected from Thursday through the weekend across the warmest interior valleys with highs ranging from 95 to 110F. These levels would present risk of heat-related illness to anyone without affective cooling and/or hydration. Stay tuned for future updates for these possibly hazardous conditions.
