There is a high risk of sneaker waves on Monday afternoon through Tuesday morning due to a building westerly swell arriving to our coast. Sneaker waves are large waves that seem to come out of nowhere and can catch you off guard. If caught by a sneaker wave and pulled into the ocean, survival is unlikely because of strong currents, turbulent surf, and very cold water. Do not be fooled by an ocean that looks calm. There can be 20 minutes of small waves right before a sneaker wave strikes. Avoid steep beaches, rocks, and jetties. Stay far back from the surf and do not go in after dogs that get pulled into the surf. Dogs almost always get out on their own.
Higher than normal tides are forecast for the first week of December. This may bring morning flooding around Humboldt Bay and along much of the coast. Southerly winds would increase the water levels, but are not currently expected. For details visit: https://tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/stations.html?type=Water+Levels#California
