⚠️🌊 Beach Hazard Statement in Effect 🌊⚠️ A Beach Hazard Statement is in effect from 8 AM Monday through 8 AM Tuesday for Northwest California beaches due to a high risk of sneaker waves. What are Sneaker Waves? Sneaker waves are large waves that seem to come out of nowhere and can catch you off guard. If caught by a sneaker wave and pulled into the ocean, survival is unlikely because of strong currents, turbulent surf, and very cold water. Safety Precautions *Do not be fooled by an ocean that looks calm. There can be 20 minutes of small waves right before a sneaker wave strikes. *Avoid steep beaches, rocks, and jetties. *Stay far back from the surf. *Do not go in after dogs that get pulled into the surf. Dogs almost always get out on their own. *Never turn your back on the ocean! Stay safe!
Higher than normal tides are forecast for the first week of December. This may bring morning flooding around Humboldt Bay and along much of the coast. Southerly winds would increase the water levels, but are not currently expected. For details visit: https://tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/stations.html?type=Water+Levels#California
