River days are one of the best ways to enjoy our area when outside temperatures start heating up. However, snowmelt will keep rivers cold and swift through the early weeks of summer. Don’t let rivers fool you. Cold water and swift currents can overpower any swimmer. Plus hidden hazards like submerged trees, rocks, and undercut banks can trap people under the surface. Make your visits to the river safe by wearing a life jacket for any river activities. Check the area for hazards and choose spots near pools with slow moving water. Avoid entering fast moving water, event if it seems shallow and always be watchful with children.
Moderate heat risk is expected in the interior this weekend and early next week. High temperatures will peak on Monday. This level of heat affects most individuals sensitive to heat, especially those without effective cooling and/or adequate hydration.
