Heavy Snow and Disruptive Ice in the Upper Midwest; Severe Thunderstorms in the Southern Plains

A late season winter storm will produce a combination of heavy snow and disruptive ice starting this evening in the Northern Plains and moving into the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes by tonight continuing through Thursday. A lot going on weather-wise for Wednesday: A passing shortwave disturbance will bring a variety of weather to the Borderland. Cooler Temperatures - a drop of around 10 degrees behind a Pacific front moving through from the west. More moisture and clouds - improved RH, and mostly cloudy skies. Strong westerly winds - west winds increasing to 20-30 mph with gusts 40+ mph. Higher over mountains. Isolated to Scattered rain showers (best chances over the northern areas, including the Gila region and Sacs). Possibility for blowing dust (but clouds and cooler temperatures may reduce the impacts, by limiting the dust).

We will see high temperatures the next couple of days running 5 to 10 degrees above average. Then Friday night, a weak cold front will move across the area. The cold front will drop high temperatures a little below average for Saturday and Sunday. For the start of next week, we will see high temperatures running a few degrees above average.
