Updated 7:05 PM Monday June 16 - This update is intended to give the general public a broad scale overview of weather changes that could impact the Trout Fire through the week.
- Tuesday (6/17) is a Critical Fire Weather Day with a Red Flag Warning in effect for much of southwestern New Mexico. West winds will gust over 30 mph as Relative Humidity values drop to just 5 to 8%. This fire has not seen conditions like this since it started.
- Dry conditions, but lighter winds are expected Wednesday.
- Winds from the southeast will return late in the week, bringing increasing humidity. But rain chances still look to stay nearly zero through at least Saturday.
- Early monsoon moisture will try and set up towards the weekend, but it looks like it’ll favor areas east of the Rio Grande, with drier conditions in SW New Mexico.
The National Weather Service’s primary role with the Trout Fire is to provide direct support to the incident command team. We have a meteorologist on-site at the Incident Operations Center in Silver City. Their forecasts, more detailed than what’s presented here, help keep firefighters safe and influence firefighting strategy and operations.
