True to form, cold arctic air flowed across our area overnight dropping temperatures to sub-zero readings that rivaled the cold outbreak of 1996. The map above shows the low temperatures through 6 AM CST/5 AM MST for most areas. However, temperatures in many areas continued to fall through shortly after sunrise.
Many locations will have high temperatures below zero this afternoon.
This cold snap won’t last as long as 1996 but the temperatures are still impressive. The tables below have been updated to show where this morning’s low temperatures fit in the record books. The low temperatures for January 15, 2009 in these tables are through 10 AM CST.
