Overview

Several supercell thunderstorms produced brief tornadoes and large hail on the evening of Sunday May 31st, 2026. A few isolated severe thunderstorms developed in southeast South Dakota, tracking initially north then more east. An early, near-stationary storm produced flash flooding in Emery, SD. Through the evening, this activity had numerous storm mergers with slow moving storms. Storms and tornado threat weakened after sunset, with mainly a large hail threat as storms progressed eastward into northwest Iowa.
