Overview

Numerous storms moved through the Missouri River Valley in southeast South Dakota, and into northwest Iowa on Tuesday, September 1, 2026. The initial storms in the late afternoon produced large to very large hail, ranging from the size of quarters to as large as baseball size (2.75 inch diameter). As the storms tracked east in the evening, the primary threat transition to damaging winds, with measured wind gusts as high as 70 to 80+ mph tracking from around Vermillion, South Dakota, into the Hull and Sibley areas in far northwest Iowa. |
