National Weather Service United States Department of Commerce

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for portions of Central and North-Central Texas, in effect until 11:00 PM CDT this evening. This watch includes the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex, Waco, Killeen, and Temple. The main severe weather threats will be large hail to the size of apples (3 inches in diameter) and damaging wind gusts to 70 MPH. A few isolated tornadoes may also be possible. Persons in and around the watch area are advised to stay tuned to the latest weather information, and be prepared to take severe weather precautions should a warning be issued for their location.
Isolated thunderstorms may develop near the intersection of a dryline and warm front west and southwest of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex during the next few hours. Any thunderstorms that develop will have the potential to become severe quickly. The main hazards with severe thunderstorms will be large hail, damaging winds, and frequent lightning.
Strong and gusty west to northwest winds are forecast on Monday as relative humidity values fall below 30 percent, with the lowest readings across the western and southwestern counties. This will result in Critical Fire Weather conditions in the orange shaded area where a Fire Weather Watch has been issued. This critical threat could spread east, however, if relative humidity ends up being a lower in subsequent forecasts. Caution should be exercised when involved in any activity that could ignite a fire. Avoid all outside burning and welding and do not toss lit cigarette butts outside.
A reinforcing shot of cooler air will send high temperatures on Tuesday into the 60s, but temperatures will warm back into the mid 70s on Wednesday and upper 70s on Thursday. Expect mainly sunny conditions, although some increasing cloud cover is expected Wednesday and into Thursday.
We will have two SKYWARN Basic Class on Monday, March 19th. One in Graham (Young County) from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm and the second one in Copperas Cove (Coryell County) from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Classes are free and registration is not required! We hope to see you there!
