Snow over southeast Utah and southwest Colorado will continue to wind down in the wake of the storm system that brushed the Four Corners region Thursday night into Friday. By late Friday  afternoon most remaining snowfall will be over the mountains, and will have spread northward along the Continental Divide.  This mountain snowfall will then persist through Friday night.  Snow is then expected over the northern Colorado mountains through Saturday evening, favored by a northwest flow.

By Friday morning, heavy snow was reported across much of the Four Corner region. Here are some pictures of snow sent in by Vandy Brinlee, a weather spotter located near Arriola, in southwest Colorado. The first picture was taken at around 8 AM on Thursday. It is of snow on the platform of his bird feeder. He reported this snow “had all but melted” by Thursday evening when the next storm began. The second picture was taken at around 8 AM on Friday. WOW! That is a lot of snow for one night! The third picture, is of Vandy’s snow stake. This shows a snow depth of 20 inches on the ground, as of Friday morning.

Eastern Utah and western Colorado will move into a drier period as high pressure builds over the Great Basin this weekend and early next week.  This will result in colder temperatures, especially in many valleys where inversions will again strengthen.
