National Weather Service United States Department of Commerce

Wednesday, May 27th, was an active severe weather day in our area. Tornadoes, large hail, and flooding were all reported. The day started early in the afternoon with a tornado report in Yuma county. Another tornado was reported about an hour later in Logan county. Several reports of hail were recevied, including hail up to the size of grapefruits which was provided by law enforcement in Benkelman, NE. Due to the heavy rainfall received from the storms, flash flooding was a major concern especially across southwest Nebraska. The flooding threat was confirmed by reports from an emergency manager including the Republican River near Stratton having overflowed its banks by a quarter to half of a mile on both sides.

The following is a list of the storm reports we received yesterday.
