Severe Thunderstorms Likely Across the Ozarks and Lower Ohio Valley

Severe thunderstorms capable of producing damaging wind gusts, large hail, and a few tornadoes, are likely to develop this afternoon from parts of the lower Ohio Valley into the southern Plains. The National Weather Service at Greenville-Spartanburg will be commemorating the 25th anniversary of the May 5th, 1989 tornado outbreak for Severe Weather Awareness Week, 2014. This is one of the worst tornado outbreaks to have ever impacted the Western Carolinas. The primary areas hit were near Chesnee, SC, areas from near Lawndale, to Toluca and Vale, to the Propst community in Cleveland/Lincoln/Catawba Counties in North Carolina, and the Wesley Chapel/Unionville area in Union County, NC.
