Regional Outbreaks of Severe Weather Through Early Next Week; Early Season Heat Wave across the South

Active spring pattern across the center of our nation with several episodes of severe weather and heavy rainfall expected into next week. The potential for very large hail, long track tornadoes, severe wind gusts, frequent cloud to ground lightning strikes and flash flooding are in the outlook. A High Wind Warning is now in effect for the Mojave Desert slopes, effective Saturday afternoon until late Sunday night. Sustained west winds 30 to 40 mph are expected, with gusts up to 65 mph. Travel may be difficult, particularly for high profile vehicles. Loose large objects may be blown around. Visibilities may be reduced in areas of blowing dust. Highways affected include, but are not limited to SR 14, 58, and 178 as well as U.S. Highway 395.
A Wind Advisory is now in effect for Saturday afternoon until late Saturday night. Sustained west winds 20 to 30 mph are expected, with localized gusts up to 60 mph in the Mojave Desert. Travel may be difficult, particularly for high profile vehicles. Visibilities may be reduced in areas of blowing dust. Highways affected include, but are not limited to SR 14, 58, and 178 as well as U.S. Highway 395.
Relative humidity values less than 20% are expected this weekend into early next week, and when combined with drying fuels and stronger winds, have a minor risk for conditions favorable for grass fire development.
