Widespread Rain from Texas to the Central Appalachians; Heavy to Excessive Rainfall in Southern California and the Southwest

Scattered thunderstorms and widespread showers are expected from the Texas coast to the central Appalachians today. Heavy to excessive rainfall will continue in southern California into the Desert Southwest through Saturday. WFO Huntsville Awarded Department of Commerce Bronze Medal

The National Weather Service forecast offices in Huntsville and Birmingham recently received the Department of Commerce Bronze Medal for "providing outstanding warnings and advisories which resulted in saving of lives during the historic Alabama floods in May 2003." WFO Huntsville Meteorologist-In-Charge John Gordon and Senior Forecaster William Schaub were Huntsville's representatives to the awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. on Thursday, December 2.
