Tropical Storm and Storm Surge Watches for the North Carolina Outer Banks; Hot in the Mid-Mississippi Valley

Tropical Storm conditions and coastal flooding are possible in the North Carolina Outer Banks beginning late Wednesday. Tropical Storm and Storm Surge Watches are in effect. Major Hurricane Erin is expected to bring life threatening surf and rip currents along the East Coast beaches this week. WFO Huntsville Awarded Department of Commerce Bronze Medal

The National Weather Service forecast offices in Huntsville and Birmingham recently received the Department of Commerce Bronze Medal for "providing outstanding warnings and advisories which resulted in saving of lives during the historic Alabama floods in May 2003." WFO Huntsville Meteorologist-In-Charge John Gordon and Senior Forecaster William Schaub were Huntsville's representatives to the awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. on Thursday, December 2.
