Storm surveys have been conducted examining storm damage that occurred on late Sunday evening, October 24th through the early morning hours of Monday, October 25, 2010.    Preliminary summaries for these surveys are found below. All tornado ratings use the Enhanced Fujita Scale.

Summary
 

During the late evening hours of October 24th and early morning of October 25th, 2010, severe thunderstorms moved across northern Alabama, and southern middle Tennessee. The first wave of thunderstorms occurred between 10:00 PM and 1:00 AM CDT. These thunderstorms produced quarter to golfball sized hail and damaging winds across the area and one tornado touchdown in Moore County, Tennessee. A second wave of thunderstorms moved from northern Mississippi over north Alabama and southen Middle Tennessee between 1:00 AM and 5:00 AM CDT on Monday, October 25th. This line of storms produced four tornadoes. One occurred over far southwest Marshall County, Alabama around 3:20 am CDT near the Arab community. Three more tornadoes tracked (two at the same time) across southeastern Jackson and northern Dekalb Counties along a line of thunderstorms beween 3:50 to 4:30 am CDT.

The tornado began near the intersection of Griffin and Harry Hill roads, and continued through the Pleasant Hill Community, before lifting near Markay Lane.  The most significant damage was to residential homes, with two homes losing covered porches.  In addition, one hay barn was destroyed.  Other damage was limited to snapped and uprooted trees that fell on residential structures.  

 

Dekalb and Jackson Counties 

This is an update to the initial Jackson/Dekalb tornado Public Information Statement that was issued at 800 pm CDT Monday, October 25th. It has been determined that there were two separate tornadoes along the same line of storms...in very close proximity to each other. Both affected portions of southeast Jackson and northern Dekalb Counties. 

 Section to Dutton

 An EF-0 tornado with peak winds up to 80 mph touched down between Section and Dutton, just south of Highway 71. The most significant damage occurred near the intersection of County Roads 18 and 395. A trailer was overturned and a small shed was destroyed. Portions of a roof and siding from a house were pulled off and several small trees were snapped.

 

Rosalie to Flat Rock to 2.0 miles east of Rising Fawn in Georgia

This was the northern track tornado within the same line of severe thunderstorms that moved across northeast Alabama early Monday morning...between 4:00 and 4:30 am CDT. This tornado initially touched down near Rosalie...between County Roads 456 and 83. At this intersection...the porch/overhang of a house collapsed with several large trees uprooted.

Additional damage...mainly uprooted trees...occurred along County Rd 78 as the tornado tracked to the northeast. The tornado turned slightly eastward as it went into Dekalb County and hit two barns along County Road 141...collapsing the roof and walls of one barn. Additional trees were snapped or uprooted along with minor roof/structural damage to a trailer and several farm outbuildings along County Road 803 before the tornado lifted. 

 

~4 miles south of Pisgah to Henagar to Ider

This "southern track" tornado touched down along Highway 40 just east of Highway 71 in Jackson County. Significant damage occurrred at Highway 40 and County Road 22. A couple of sheds were destroyed along with numerous large trees snapped or uprooted. A single-wide manufactured home was lifted 4-6 feet off its foundation along County Road 382 north of Highway 40. 

More damage occurred along County Road 134 just before the tornado crossed into Dekalb County. The worst of the damage associated with this tornado occurred near the intersection of County Road 134 and 131. At this location...a cinder block foundation shed was completely destroyed. As the tornado continued to track to the northeast...a residential home along County Road 886...southwest of Ider...lost much of it's roof and portions of it's brick exterior walls...along with total destruction of a 20-foot by 20-foot shed. 

The bleachers and scoreboard at the Ider High School foot ball field were also destroyed. The bleachers were solid concrete and were reinforced with 1/2-inch thick rebar. 

The tornado then crossed into Dade county approximately two miles southwest of Rising Fawn. The tornado then tracked east-northeast. Considerable damage to trees and property was noted along the path of the tornado. Thirty homes sustained minor roof damage either from the strong wind or downed trees. Two barns were destroyed and a mobile home lost nearly all of its roof. Nearly 200 trees were uprooted, snapped, or blown over along the path of the tornado.This damage extended to 2 miles east of Rising Fawn just east of the Georiga/Alabama state line near the eastern most extension of Holder Loop Road.

A short-lived tornado approached the town of Arab from the west and initially touched down just east of HIghway 231 and Haynes road.  Several trees were snapped or uprooted.  Some minor roof and siding damage was inflicted on a house at the intersection of Haynes road and Putter Circle.  Additional trees were snapped or uprooted on the golf course across the street.  The tornado briefly continued east northesat and caused significant damage to a farm outbuilding on Huckleberry Lane, north of Haynes road.
