August 3rd 2011 damaging storms

 

 

Summary: Storms developed during the late afternoon hours on Wednesday August 3rd over Western Kansas and Western Oklahoma. While these storms provided some much needed rain to most of South Central Kansas, they also caused damaging winds, with the Wichita area being the hardest hit. 70 to 80 mph winds blew through Wichita around 10 pm blowing down trees and power lines and knocking out power to more than 12,000 residents.
