Hurricane Erin Moving Away from the North Carolina Coast, Dangerous Surf & Rip Currents Continue; Hazardous Heat out West

Tropical storm conditions, storm surge flooding and coastal flooding continue today across the Outer Banks and portions of the Mid-Atlantic coast. Low pressure moved northeast through the Ohio Valley early on the morning of Monday, February 28. A cold front passed through the region, interacting with an airmass that was unseasonably warm and moist for late winter. This weather system produced widespread heavy rainfall and severe weather, as a squall line moved east through the forecast area.
