Heavy Great Lakes Snow through Friday; Extreme Cold and Potential for Major Winter Storm Late Week into this Weekend

Multiple clipper systems will bring cold temperatures and enhance lake-effect snow downwind of the Great Lakes. An arctic blast will bring frigid temperatures accompanied with gusty winds that may lead to dangerous wind chills beginning in the Northern Plains Thursday before expanding to the South and East. Winter Storm

A significant winter storm affected the Ohio Valley during the period with a mixture of snow, sleet and freezing rain. Significant ice accumulations were observed north of the Cincinnati Tri-State region, and into the Whitewater and Miami Valley regions, as well as central Ohio. Heavy snow and sleet affected parts of the northern Miami Valley and west-central Ohio. Northern Kentucky and south-central Ohio experienced relatively light wintry precipitation early in the event before temperatures warmed above freezing during the day January 31st.
