Heavy Great Lakes Snow through Friday; Extreme Cold and Potential for Major Winter Storm Late Week into this Weekend

Multiple clipper systems will bring cold temperatures and enhance lake-effect snow downwind of the Great Lakes. An arctic blast will bring frigid temperatures accompanied with gusty winds that may lead to dangerous wind chills beginning in the Northern Plains Thursday before expanding to the South and East. Severe Weather & Tornadoes

In the wake of the June 29 Derecho, another severe weather event occurred just two days later on the first of July. Thunderstorms over northern Indiana congealed into a few clusters and bowing segments, moving into the NWS Wilmington OH forecast area after 4 PM. The storms moved through the Miami Valley and parts of central Ohio, producing large hail and damaging winds. Some of the wind damage was significant, especially in Miami and Clark Counties. Further south, additional thunderstorm cells developed and produced damaging winds and large hail. A strong storm over northern Clermont County produced hail to golf ball size, while a storm over Ross County became a supercell and produced hail up to the size of baseballs.
