Excessive Rainfall and Tropical Storm in the South; Severe Thunderstorms in the Midwest

Excessive rainfall may produce considerable, potentially life-threatening, flooding across the lower Mississippi River Valley and central Great Lakes region through tonight. Tropical Storm Arthur will move northeastward along the Texas coast today and then move inland over southwestern Louisiana by tonight. Winter Storm

Precipitation overspread the region through the day on December 26th, 2012 as a low pressure system moved through the Tennessee Valley. To the northwest of Interstate 71, precipitation remained mainly snow through the event with snowfall amounts generally in the 6 to 10 inch range. Along and southeast of Interstate 71, sleet and freezing rain mixed with the snow, significantly reducing snowfall accumulations.
