Scattered Severe Thunderstorms Across the Northern Plains; Fire Weather Concerns in the Western U.S.

Scattered severe thunderstorms are forecast across central and eastern North Dakota, as well as far northwest Minnesota Saturday (Slight Risk level 2 of 5). Damaging wind gusts are the primary threat. Severe Storms and Tornadoes

During the afternoon of March 14, a supercell thunderstorm developed over southern Indiana, producing a tornado as it crossed the Ohio River three times heading into Kentucky. During the evening of March 14, multiple supercell thunderstorms developed over Indiana, producing numerous strong tornadoes across western and central Ohio.

The NWS Wilmington Ohio confirmed a total of seven tornadoes from this event. Within the NWS Wilmington Ohio forecast area, the tornado tracks combined to a total of 145 miles. Tornadoes also occurred in portions of the NWS Louisville, NWS Indianapolis, NWS Northern Indiana, and NWS Cleveland forecast areas.
